SMILE Pearland is launched in September

We are thrilled to announce the launch of SMILE Pearland, a monthly program dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs and their families in the Pearland community. The program, launched in September, is organized by Hummingbird Community Outreach and AYLUS Pearland/PROMIS, in collaboration with the Advocates for Patients with Disabilities at McGovern Medical School.

Building on the success of Project SMILE - which stands for Self-Advocacy, Moving Toward Good Health, Independent Living Skills, Learning Basic Job Skills, and Emotional Regulation Skills — our youth volunteers have partnered with the Light and Salt Association’s Special Needs Caring Center to deliver engaging, skill-building programs for individuals with special needs.

SMILE Pearland sessions take place monthly at the West Pearland Library, typically on weekends, and run for two hours with a short mid-session break. Each session features a unique theme and interactive activities designed to strengthen cognitive, fine motor, communication, and life skills — all in a supportive, inclusive, and joyful environment.
