Youth SMILE 4 Special Needs
SMILE Pearland

Launched in September 2025, SMILE Pearland is a monthly program dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs and their families in the Pearland community. The program is organized by Hummingbird Community Outreach (HCO) and AYLUS Pearland/PROMIS, in collaboration with the Advocates for Patients with Disabilities at McGovern Medical School. Building on our success with Project SMILE- which stands for Self-Advocacy, Moving Toward Good Health, Independent Living Skills, Learning Basic Job Skills, and Emotional Regulation Skills-youth volunteers deliver engaging, skill-building experiences that promote growth, confidence, and inclusion for individuals with special needs. SMILE Pearland sessions are held monthly at the West Pearland Library, typically on weekends, and run for about two hours with a short mid-session break. Each session features a unique theme and interactive activities designed to strengthen cognitive, fine motor, communication, and life skills—all within a supportive, inclusive, and joyful environment.
