Youth SMILE 4 Special Needs
Youth Led SMILE Camp

Youth Led SMILE Camp
The youth-led SMILE Camp evolved from the original buddy program initiated in 2021 by HCO founder and president, Aila Jiang, at the Light and Salt Association (LSA)'s Special Needs Caring Center. What began as a simple buddy system has grown into a full-fledged youth-led camp where youth volunteers assist in instructing arts & crafts, music, computer skills, and life skills lessons. In summer 2023, HCO volunteers introduced creative youth-led life skills training sessions, such as a mini-market simulation. By 2024, the camp had transitioned into a youth-led program, with youth volunteers designing an innovative curriculum under the guidance of the center’s professionals. This curriculum includes, but is not limited to, multi-skill integrated lessons, a mini-market simulation, mini-Olympics, AI teaching, and healthy living workshop. The program has received widespread praise from both individuals with special needs and the center’s professionals.
